I have just recently had the chance to watched “Social Network” directed by David Fincher with my communication t echnology class. This movie genre is a biography, drama, and history. Everyone has a facebook account or has at least checked it out once or twice. If neither of those are you then you must have heard of it and if even none of those apply to you then you know have heard of facebook. (: This movie is a story of the founders of the social-networking site thefacebook.

In USA 2003, Harvard junior Mark Zuckerberg was inspired to create “TheFacebook.com,” a site where Harvard students could interact with each other. Along with his best friend Eduardo Saverin, who funded the venture, the site launches to huge success and continues to grow until the entry of Napster innovator Sean Parker and then everything begins to unravel.  The main characters are Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg), Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake), Dustin Moskovitz (Joseph Mazzello) and Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss (Armie Hammer).

The main actors in the “Social Network” look fairly similar to the real people behind the story which I found neat. I found that all the actors played their roles the best they could, i was satisfied with all. Jesse Eisenberg has the starring role as Mark Zuckerberg, founder and current CEO of Facebook. The boy billionaire is ru mored to have stepped on some toes on his way to the top, the likes of which are dramatized in the movie. I found he did a very good job with keeping up with his brilliance act. Also actor Armie Hammer as Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, Zuckerberg’s rivals, the twin brothers who wanted to create a website with the help of Zuckerberg. Hammer’s part was a bit more challenging he is one actor playing a dual role. Every actor / actress seem to play a good role in creating a tremendous movie.

During the movie “social network” I really liked how it was so precise with Zuckerberg hacking into all the schools groups to get photos of all the females to create a website called facemash.com. It was basically to comparing females. I just found it so cool and kind of scary how one person can access all this information without anyone knowing or if they do find out its four hours later.

The lessons I learned from this story was business ideas are not protected, It is hard to prove the idea had originated from the Winklevoss twins. I’m guessing it would probably have been a different case if the twins had been programmers themselves. As much as their ideas were awesome, they were not capable of executing it themselves. Although I do not agree Zuckerberg’s act of keeping twins in the dark as he was not keen and already embarking on his on project – I’m guessing in the real world, it is only a business move to buy time to get ahead of competitors although there are much debate about this and it appears unethical. Another lesson I think others learned was think of the long run, Zuckerberg did not want to have ads on facebook as his best friend Saverin did. Saverin wanted to make money off the ads, but Zuckerberg thought ads would make facebook uncool. Also Zuckerberg was not money-hungry, he did not care to make the big bucks.

The group of people who would enjoy this movie would be teens and older crowd, Ages 14 to early 30’s. I would recommend it to anyone who uses facebook. The MPAA rated PG-14 for sexual content, drug and alcohol use and language. I thought this movie was going to much better then I expected, my friends who had already saw it had been really hyped up about seeing it. It was an interesting movie to watch.

I give the “social network” a charged rating of:

three full batteries and a bit out of four.
